Consider how the families who built the digital world raise their own children.

  • Melinda Gates's children did not have smartphones, and used a computer only in the kitchen. Bill Gates spends hours reading books while everyone else refreshes their home page.
  • The most sought after private school in Silicon Valley, the Waldorf School of the Peninsula, bans electronic devices for children under eleven. It teaches the children of eBay, Apple, Uber and Google staff to build go-karts, knit and cook.
  • Mark Zuckerberg wants his daughters to read Dr. Seuss and play outside, rather than use Messenger Kids.
  • Steve Jobs strictly limited his children's use of technology at home.
